Case of rash driving filed in Cyrus Mistry accident against Dr Anahita Pandole

A case has been filed against the driver of the Mercedes-Benz GLC in which former Tata Sons chairman, Cyrus Mistry, lost his life. As per the PTI report, Dr Anahita Pandole, who was driving the SUV at the time, has been slapped with the allegation of rash driving, under the Indian Penal Code sections 204(A) (causing death by rash and negligent act), 279 (rash driving on public road), 337 (causing death by act endangering life and personal safety of others). The sections have been filed in addition to other Motor Vehicles Act codes at Kasa police station in Maharashtra.

Anahita Pandole is a Mumbai-based gynaecologist who was behind the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz GLC at the time of the accident. The SUV was carrying four occupants including the driver when it crashed on the bridge over Surya river on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway on September 4. Cyrus and Jahangir Pandole, who were riding in the backseat lost their lives in the accident.

Since the accident, Mercedes-Benz has conducted an investigation on the particular GLC SUV. The state of Maharashtra has made seatbelts for both front and rear passengers mandatory and other states are now rallying for the same. The GLC SUV in which the party of four was travelling, has a Euro NCAP safety rating of 5 stars. It features safety equipment such as 7 Airbags with knee protection, seat belt warning, overspeed warning, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, traction control and a lot more.
